ANNUAL TOY DRIVE ANNOUNCEMENT
All gifts collected will be part of the free Christmas Shop at St. Jude Hospital’s Target House long term family residence.
Childhood cancer is real, devastating, painful, and too often it leads to the death of a precious child. Childhood cancer does not care if you’re rich or poor, black or white. It can strike any family without warning from birth.
The family with a child fighting cancer gets broken down physically, emotionally and financially. With just a few children’s cancer hospitals in the United States families are forced to seek treatment at a facility far away from home. Often one or both parents must give up their jobs to be with their child as they fight for their life.
Child cancer treatments are often long and tough. Some last many years. Even after enduring sometimes torturous treatments there is no guarantee that they will work.
Even though my words cannot come close, I tried to describe some of what it’s like to have a child with cancer. You may read these words and think it is a harsh way to introduce our annual Santa Cause Toy Drive. It is...but the reality is a thousand times more harsh for these kids and their families. I write this to illustrate the fear, isolation, desperation, pain and difficulties children with cancer and their families live with every day.
On Christmas day, your gift of a toy or your donation allows these families, to ever so briefly, escape their reality and just be a family for a little while.
I have seen with my own eyes the amazement and gratitude of the parents at Saint Jude Hospital Target House when they step in that free Christmas Shop packed with donated gifts . I have been hugged by tearful moms and I have been embraced by emotional fathers that just wanted to say thank you for giving them a great Christmas, or even a Christmas at all.
If you can find it in your heart to give a pediatric cancer family a few minutes away from their harsh reality on Christmas morning, please make a donation. Your true gift is in providing these few moments of normalcy in their otherwise chaotic world.
Thank you!
